Scientific studies and research pointing to potential health effects of the various beta casein types have generated wide international interest. Dairy products are well known to be a valuable source of calcium but milk and other dairy products are also now recognized to contain other ingredients beneficial to our health. Milk's function is to provide all the nourishment needed by rapidly growing infant mammals, as well as valuable immunological protection. Far from being a simple white liquid, milk contains a wide range of nutrients, minerals, proteins and essential fatty acids as well as bioactives, hormones, modulators and growth factors which boost immune function and aid development and growth of the intestinal tract. The potential advantages of a2 milk™ were first identified through epidemiological studies which showed that in countries where the dairy herds produced a higher proportion of the A2 protein in their milk, there was a significantly lower incidence of childhood diabetes and coronary heart disease. It was recognized that this statistical correlation was not, in itself, proof of a beneficial effect of the A2 beta casein in relation to disease, but the link appeared so strong that the findings have triggered further study and review. |
